Afforestation Initiative: Planting the Seeds of Perpetuity
Hsinchu North Cross International Education Foundation and Eagle Corporation sow the seeds of perpetuity for a sustainable future.
As global climate change intensifies, our beloved island of Taiwan is facing the stark reality of receding coastlines. In response to the pressing ESG and ecological well-being issues, Hsinchu North Cross International Education Foundation, in collaboration with Eagle Corporation, has embarked on a meaningful journey by organizing a team of green volunteers to plant trees at New Moon Beach, Zhubei. Together, we announced the launch of our "Ten-Year Afforestation Project. This endeavor signifies our unwavering commitment to sowing the seeds of hope for every single new student and takes on tangible actions toward achieving "net zero emissions."

In the early days of spring, the green volunteers from North Cross and Eagle, along with our families, joined the ranks of tree planters. With sleeves rolled up and shovels in hand, we braved the gentle rain and cool breeze, working tirelessly to clear weeds, loosen the soil, and meticulously irrigate the area. Together, we planted 250 seedlings of coastal forest species such as Casuarina, Hibiscus tiliaceus, and Pandanus tectorius. These magnificent coastal trees possess the remarkable ability to stabilize the sand and shield against wind-blown sand, replenishing the sand source and nurturing the thriving woodland. Through this initiative, we hope to alleviate the challenges posed by inadequate sand replenishment and the alarming retreat of Taiwan's coastline.
Standing steadfast on the frontline, the plants planted this time carry a profound responsibility to safeguard our cherished homeland. Besides planting, ensuring they are well-protected becomes imperative. Just as these young seedlings require windbreak fences to stay safe and grow healthily, we have fostered an unwavering commitment to nurturing our students. This belief aligns seamlessly with North Cross’s philosophy of fostering students with a solid bilingual foundation and Interdisciplinary proficiency. It instills in our students the resilience to weather life's storms, empowering them to forge ahead with unwavering determination.

"Every young plant on the coastline and every child in the classroom embodies our unwavering hope for the future!" With deep concern for Taiwan's land and a heartfelt understanding of the challenges faced by our coastline, North Cross and Eagle have taken a resolute stand. Thus, the "Ten-Year Afforestation Project" was born. Moving forward, for every new student enrolled, we pledge to plant a tree, thereby assisting in slowing down the retreat of our coastline and fostering a better local environment and ecology.
With a strong emphasis on environmental education and ecological harmony, North Cross integrates environmental and agricultural education into our curriculum for all grades. By instilling the concepts of environmental conservation and ESG principles in the next generation of students, we aspire to extend these values from individual actions to collective efforts, nurturing a thriving ecological corridor.

"It takes ten years to grow trees and one hundred more years to cultivate people." In a decade, the "Ten-Year Afforestation Project" will have witnessed the planting of over 10,000 trees, annually absorbing approximately 24,000 tons of carbon dioxide. This remarkable feat is equivalent to the carbon absorption capacity of 62 Da'an Forest Parks, making a significant contribution towards mitigating global warming. The "Ten-Year Afforestation Project" symbolizes the collective commitment of North Cross, Eagle, all teachers, students, and parents to environmental sustainability. Together, we strive to create a stronger bond through tree planting, forging an interconnected green network that safeguards Taiwan's green fortress for generations to come.
